I am so excited to launch my new site! I have had this site in my mind for YEARS!!! I feel like I am losing actual weight just by getting this out of my mind and into cyberspace 🙂
Whatever brings you here, welcome! Let me just explain a little bit more about why Taking Healthy Steps and why the tagline “because life is in the steps.”
I had the opportunity to go away to a cabin for a weekend scrap retreat. A great chance to get away from the day-to-day tasks, spend time with friends and remember all the good times we have had as a family. I don’t know about you, but I can get lost in the day-to-day monotony! Sometimes I need to get out of my routine, so I can appreciate and be thankful for what my daily life is. Scrap retreats help me do this.
Taking a break from scrapbooking, I like to go for a walk/run on the windy and hilly back roads leading up to the cabin. It is located near Lake Cumberland, with beautiful views of the water. I had made it out to the road and was on my way back. As I was walking and looking at the road in front of me, I had a realization. This hill represents the struggles we go through. As we face the hill, we have a choice. We can choose to walk away. We can choose to find another way around. We can choose to sprint up the hill. OR, we can choose to climb the hill, one step at a time. We may need to rest for a bit. Some will be faster than us, others might be slower. But, we CAN conquer it. ONE step at a time. That is where we find life, hope, strength and perseverance. While we are taking the steps. Reaching the goal is the bonus!
That is what led me to the tagline, “because LIFE is in the steps.” Life is not in the destination. Life is IN the steps.
What I want you to learn as you join the Taking Healthy Steps community, is that it just takes one decision, that leads to a series of choices. You don’t wake up one morning and say, “Today, I am going to climb that mountain.” Especially if you do not have an active lifestyle. Or, “Today, I am going to lose 20 pounds.” It just isn’t realistic. What IS realistic for today is to make a decision. “I will lose the excess weight.” “I will train and prepare to be able to climb that mountain.” Now, that is realistic. Next, you will decide on a plan to make it happen. Then, you make one choice at a time, to follow the plan. One healthy step at a time. Finally, you accomplish your goal. And you celebrate!!!! All because you made a decision to want something and to take the necessary healthy steps to go after it. Now that, my friend, is taking control of your life and making it a great one!!!!
